ATF Introduces the Channel Islands’ First Sustainable Aviation Fuel Certificate (SAFc) Book and Claim Scheme.

Paving the Way for a Greener and More Sustainable Future in Aviation

ATF is proud to announce the launch of the Channel Islands’ first-ever Sustainable Aviation Fuel Certificate (SAFc) Book and Claim scheme. This innovative initiative allows aviation users in the Channel Islands to effectively claim the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for their operations, marking a significant step toward a more sustainable future in aviation.

The SAFc Book and Claim scheme enables aviation users – from airlines to private jet operators – to purchase SAF certificates that represent the environmental benefits of SAF usage, even if the fuel itself is not physically available at their departure location. This groundbreaking mechanism offers flexibility and accessibility for aviation stakeholders committed to reducing their carbon footprint while supporting the global transition to greener aviation practices.

Commitment to a Greener Future

ATF is deeply committed to driving sustainable change within the aviation sector. By introducing the SAFc Book and Claim scheme, ATF is providing a practical solution that not only aligns with global climate goals but also encourages responsible fuel consumption practices across the industry. The scheme is designed to simplify the process of acquiring SAF certificates, enabling users to contribute to carbon reduction and support the production and adoption of SAF on a larger scale.

“We are excited to be the first to introduce this innovative scheme in the Channel Islands,” said Jonathan Best at ATF.  The SAFc Book and Claim scheme is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and our commitment to providing aviation users with the tools they need to make a real impact on reducing carbon emissions. By making SAF more accessible through this flexible and efficient mechanism, we are taking a meaningful step toward a greener and more sustainable future for aviation.”

How the SAFc Book and Claim Scheme Works

The SAFc Book and Claim scheme works by allowing aviation users to purchase SAF certificates, which represent the environmental attributes of SAF that has been produced and used elsewhere. These certificates can then be used by aviation companies to meet their sustainability targets, promote green credentials, and support the global transition to sustainable aviation fuels. This approach not only encourages the production of SAF but also ensures that the environmental benefits of SAF are realised across the aviation industry, regardless of geographic limitations.

In addition, it is not limited to Aviation operators at Jersey Airport, if any businesses wants to procure SAFc for their employees business travel, this is also possible via the scheme.

A Call to Action for a Sustainable Future

ATF believes that collective action is crucial in achieving meaningful progress toward sustainability. The introduction of the SAFc Book and Claim scheme is a significant step in encouraging wider participation in the adoption of sustainable aviation practices. ATF invites all aviation users in the Channel Islands and beyond to take part in this initiative and join us in our commitment to a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable aviation industry.

Comment from Ports of Jersey Head of Sustainability and Community Value, Sophie Roffe: ‘We are delighted to launch the SAF book and claim system with ATF.  Transporting the fuel to be used directly on-Island would reduce the decarbonisation benefits, so supporting its use to refuel closer to the source in France, is a more sustainable option and an important step in the industry’s journey to net zero.  As part of our decarbonisation roadmap, we are passionate about supporting our business partners to decarbonise and are always looking for opportunities to continue to develop partnerships to reduce aviation carbon emissions, trialling and developing next-generation technologies as they evolve and become ready for commercial use.’

Comment from Q8 Aviation: We at Q8Aviation are excited to collaborate with ATF by providing them with SAF certificates through the book-and-claim system. This partnership highlights our commitment to advancing sustainable aviation solutions, making carbon footprint reductions easier, using digitalised traceability systems. By leveraging the book-and-claim system, we are proud to support the global shift towards greener aviation and demonstrate our leadership in driving sustainable fuel adoption across the industry.
